San Francisco memories

More of my travel photos today.

I landed at San Francisco airport nearly six years ago on my own for an adventure travelling down the coast of California meeting up with Matt halfway. It was the middle of December and as you can see from the photos I was very lucky with the weather, sunny skies nearly every day.

Being alone wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it could be, i'd made friends within half a day in the hostel I was staying in. (fairly grim but very social!) I spent my days walking miles around the city, from China town, Union Square, Fishermans Wharf, Coit tower and Haight Ashbury. My new friends and I rented bikes and cycled past colourful houses up to and across the Golden Gate bridge down into Sausalito for lunch looking back to the San Fransico skyline, then catching the ferry with our bikes sailing past Alcatraz. We wrapped up in the evenings and huddled under outdoor heaters drinking outside little wine bars.

One day I will be back in this amazing city as I still haven't seen it all, I really want to experience some of the great restaurants i've read about (when not on a backpackers budget!) maybe in summer this time.....

  1. wow amazing photos!! I don't travel to the States much but after seeing this post SF is definitely added to the list.
When I went to Europe this year it was my first time travelling alone. I enjoyed it so much..it really is easier to meet people that way than going with others

  7. Apparently autumn is a good time to go, we went in August and it was freezing - they have such a strange climate there.

  19. your shots are FANTASTIC!! and yes SanFran is an amazing City. I love it, I used to live about 2 hours from it when I was living in Monterey last year. It is definitely a place I would love to explore forever and ever, so much to see. Again, your shots are stunning.

  20. I love the first pic you took of the GG Bridge - it belongs on a postcard - and this post made me miss SF since I lived there for so long. You definitely should go back to SF one day... it's a different experience when you can do it up in the city! Plus, there are tons of great restaurants to check out.
